Professional Overview
Dr Mina Shehata is a Consultant Sleep and Respiratory Physician and a Fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians (FRACP) based in Sydney.He completed his Doctor of Medicine at the University of New South Wales in 2017 and undertook extensive specialist training in Respiratory and Sleep Medicine across Westmead, Concord and Sutherland Hospitals - centres recognised for tertiary and complex respiratory care.
He was awarded Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians (FRACP) in 2024 and is currently completing a Graduate Diploma in Allergic Disease, further strengthening his expertise in airway and immune mediated respiratory conditions.
Dr Shehata’s practice spans both public and private settings, with a particular interest in complex, overlapping and diagnostically uncertain presentations. His practice is distinguished by an integrated sleep–respiratory evaluation and systematic physiological interpretation. Patients and referring physicians value his composed judgement, thorough assessment and continuity of care.


Academic and Clinical Leadership
Dr Shehata holds academic appointments with the University of Sydney and the University of New South Wales, where he teaches and examines medical trainees. His ongoing involvement in education reflects a commitment to evidence based and contemporary practice.
He has presented research at national and international scientific meetings including the Asia Pacific Society of Respirology and the Thoracic Society of Australia and New Zealand. His work spans pulmonary function testing, pleural disease, pulmonary embolism and sleep disordered breathing. In 2023, he received Assembly Education Awards in both General Respiratory and Tuberculosis categories, recognising the clinical relevance of his research presentations.
He remains actively involved in prospective and multicentre clinical research and contributes to guideline interpretation and respiratory service development initiatives aimed at improving long term patient outcomes. He has also contributed to service development and governance initiatives across hospital networks, including coordinated respiratory care programs and clinical pathway development aimed at improving long term outcomes. Dr Shehata has also participated in international medical outreach across Africa, South America and Southeast Asia, supporting both clinical care and medical education in resource-limited settings.
